Earn while you learn

Not got a degree, but deeply passionate about tech? We’ll pay you to work for us and to study for a recognised qualification, up to and including a Bachelor of Science Degree in Technology.

Depending on your background and ambition, you could join us as a Foundation, or Higher Apprentice. On both, you’ll receive training to help you create industry-changing products and technologies. So, together, we can improve the financial lives of millions of customers and clients

Each project that comes along brings its own excitement with it, so we’ll have new third parties we’re working with, new integrations and new issues which need a solution.

Keeping Barclays at the forefront of cyber security and all the latest threats, is definitely the next reality.

Why Technology at Barclays?

Join us and you’ll propel your technology career in a place behind numerous firsts. These include the world’s first ATM, the first use of finger-vein recognition software for bank customers in the UK and our award-winning trading system BARX, which was the first platform to offer precision pricing. We were also the first major UK bank to create talking ATMs for blind and visually impaired customers.

So why are some of the big banking breakthroughs down to us? Our CEO Jes Staley says: “Barclays is a technology company with a balance sheet”. It’s why we invest so heavily in technology – and why we’ll invest so heavily in you. Giving you the skills to deploy – or project manage – some of the most advanced tech across AI, big data, machine learning, real-time programming, cyber and DevOps to power the futuristic bank.

World-leading Technology training

Our training programme is as innovative as our technology. It will kickstart your development – and ability to succeed.

Like many, you probably learn best by doing and you’ll have lots of on-the-job training working where you’ll gain technology experience. For example, one of our past apprentices worked on Pingit: our pioneering mobile payment service. We’ll also help you gain an IT qualification, covering fees, plus day release when you study. You’ll also get great support from your mentor, career coach and buddy.

Our Technology opportunities

Apply now for your chance to unleash The Next Reality. You could be just out of school, or just out of retirement. You could even be changing your career. At Barclays, you could be anyone as long as you meet our minimum qualification requirements.

Join us as a Foundation Apprentice

You’ll need a genuine interest in technology and be committed to our two-year learning programmme. If you’re applying for our Foundation programme, that’s all you need. When it comes to your age, background and experience, you can be anyone.

So long as you have at least five GCSEs (or equivalent), including maths and English, at Grade C or above (or at grade 5 or above) we’re far more interested in the personal qualities and motivations you bring.

Good communication skills are essential. You’ve also got to work well as part of a team. Beyond that, it’s just about your energy and enthusiasm – and how dedicated you are to making the most of every opportunity that comes your way.

Join us as a Higher Apprenctice

If you’re looking to study for a degree while working for us as a Higher Apprentice, we’ll look for a little more from your application. You can come from any age or background, but as well as your passion to learn about technology, we’ll also ask you to have:

  • For roles in England, 3 A-Levels (or equivalent) at BCC or above
  • For roles in Scotland, 4 Bs in your Highers (or equivalent), including maths or computing

Again, good communication skills are vital, as is your calm determination to rise to every challenge. You’ll be driven, committed, enthusiastic – and we’ll be there to help you succeed.

Applications for our Higher Programme are now closed until early 2018.
