Using our website
To help us make the Barclays website a positive place for everyone we’re always looking for ways to make our websites and online services easier to use. Where possible, we follow the guidelines developed by the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) and the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB).
Changing your computer or device settings
There are many changes you can make to ensure browsing the internet is a better experience. You can change options in your internet browser – such as altering colours, changing text size or using voice activation – to alter the way you see, hear or use a website. We and AbilityNet have developed an accessibility site explaining these and other accessibility features – useful whether you’re using a mobile device or a computer that runs Windows, Mac OSX, iOS or Android.
Finding your way around
We try to design our websites so it’s easy for you to find the information you need. If you get stuck, you’ll find help pages, site maps and contacts pages in most of our sites.
Even fully-sighted people can find reading text on a screen difficult or tiring, so we have chosen an easy-to-see web colour scheme and a clear font type, size and colour.
If you use a screen reader
Not everyone navigates websites in the same way, so we’ve designed our sites to work with screen readers. We use text (in ALT tags) to describe images. We use descriptive links (e.g. More about mortgages instead of Click here) so you know where the link takes you, and we don’t use frames which are difficult for screen readers and special browsers to interpret.
IAAP founding members
Barclays are founding members of the International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP) whose goal is to define, promote and improve the accessibility profession globally through networking, education and certification in order to enable the creation of accessible products, content and services.
