Our Technology hubs

We currently have four strategic tech hubs in the UK - read more here about what life is like in our Glasgow, Knutsford, London and Northampton offices.

Glasgow

2021 will see the opening of our new campus on the banks of the Clyde in the heart of the city. It’s been built from the ground up to deliver a world-class, collaborative working environment which will bring together our Technology, Operations and Business teams.

Here you'll find Technology teams specialising in Digital Investing and Wealth Management, Investment Banking and in Risk & Finance. With a deep and growing data science practice and more than 30 years' experience in delivering market-leading trading and data platforms, Glasgow offers a huge range of opportunities, all built on a culture where talent's free to thrive.

You'll also find our unique Barclays Scotland philosophy, "Passion with Purpose", exemplified by our deep involvement with local communities and support for colleagues.

Meanwhile, the vibrant and buzzing city of Glasgow offers endless opportunities to enjoy life outside the office. From major exhibitions to festivals, you’ll find the best of culture, food, sport, art and entertainment. Whether you want to take in the latest film, try a new activity or check out a new restaurant, there’s always someone who’ll be keen to come along.

Knutsford

Based in Knutsford and set in a stunning 64-acre site, Radbroke Hall is a tech hub like no other. The campus has tennis courts, gardens and even bee hives, as well as the latest in FinTech development.

Radbroke is our biggest tech hub and our 24/7 command centre. Here, we monitor our critical systems to make sure all our customers can access their banking services. Mobile apps, Cloud-based systems, cyber security: we explore a huge range of areas and possibilities. Our 3,500-strong team is an incredibly diverse community with talents in all kinds of areas, including coding, data analysis and Machine Learning.

And right now, our teams are developing the bank’s new Application Programme Interface (API) – a way for third parties such as FinTech companies to access data from banks that will be required under new ‘open banking’ legislation.

When it’s time for some R&R, you don’t have to go far to find it. There are coffee shops and a restaurant; a gym; a farmers’ market; and even a mobile hairdresser and masseuse! The tennis courts and sports pitches are in regular use, especially by Radbroke’s resident teams. Plus there’s the convenience of an Amazon locker, to help you to never miss a delivery. In Summer, you’ll find barbecues, deckchairs and even an ice cream van at our leafy campus! The perfect way to stay cool while creating the hottest ideas in FinTech.

London

If you love the buzz of city life, our global HQ is the place to be. Our London hub is in Canary Wharf, at the heart of London’s financial district.

Our 2,000-strong London workforce is hugely diverse, with specialist technology teams full of international colleagues. Every day, you’ll have the chance to experience the thrill of achieving as part of a team.

With so many new recruits, there are tremendous opportunities to make new friends and share knowledge and ideas. And when it comes to building a network, where better to socialise?

Our London hub is equipped with an array of facilities including its own café, as well as walkways to the Canary Wharf underground station and the shopping mall.

The work that happens in London is varied and often involves cutting-edge tech. "We’re working on advanced data science projects, looking at how we can improve and automate processes,” says Ciaran, a Computer Science graduate. “It means that as a team, we get to work with some of the latest AI and machine learning techniques.”

It all adds up to a unique destination that’s bursting with opportunities: get ready to explore new roles and to get your teeth into the most exciting technological challenges.

Northampton

Northampton is the home of Barclaycard, a British icon and a top 20 UK superbrand. The launch of Barclaycard in 1966 was one of the biggest developments in the history of banking: the UK’s first all-purpose credit card. Today, Barclaycard is one of the leading payment providers in the world, enabling millions of pounds to be collected through point of sale payment devices in thousands of retail outlets. Barclaycard marked its golden jubilee in 2016.

In Northampton, we handle all card and payment services across the Barclays business. That adds up to 18 million transactions daily, or 196 payments per second. It’s an operation on a vast scale that has a daily impact on millions of lives. Who develops the cutting-edge products, features, platforms and infrastructure that our cards depend on? Our amazing 3,000-strong team.

In this key strategic hub, a huge community of talented people come together to explore, discover and innovate. And they do it through CoLabs – fast-paced, focused think tanks, where people from diverse teams can get together and solve problems. CoLabs are at the heart of our agile, highly collaborative culture, and a model for the wider Barclays business. But they’re not the only innovation to take shape in Northampton. It’s here that exciting new cards such as bPay by Barclaycard and NFC tap and pay for Android were created. And thanks to AI and machine learning, we’re also making the most of the incredible flow of data that passes through this hub. In addition to all this, our team is behind global business developments such as the use of machine learning to combat fraud and the redesign of technology for future contact centres. With so much happening, it’s the ideal place to enjoy a diverse career.

You’ll find our brilliant Barclays minds in our lake-side office, built in 1996. It’s not only environmentally friendly, but also people-friendly too. Here, we encourage wellbeing – from mental health to healthy living to health awareness. And we also get involved in a variety of good causes including the Prince's Trust and local charities. With many on-site facilities too, there’s everything you need to thrive on a personal and professional level.
