Thinking Differently About the Route to a Long-Term Career
Colleagues – and sisters – Priya and Neha tell us about becoming Barclays apprentices.

I initially became interested in a summer internship because Barclays offered applicants the choice between an emerging technologist or developer position. Being someone who wanted to gain a more business focused experience, the former really interested me.
One thing which really surprised me about working here was the supportive atmosphere. People are so friendly and willing to help each other. The directors meeting initiative has really benefitted me by giving me the opportunity to learn from the skills, knowledge and experiences these senior representatives have to offer.
Furthermore, I have felt valued by my colleagues from my first day here, which has given me the confidence to speak up in meetings and properly engage with my projects. I have been aiding my team with automated/manual testing and an exciting project, which involves upgrading the current agent desktop used for the bank’s merchant services interactive voice response system.
Prior to joining Barclays, I had expected to be working long hours sat behind my desk most of the time. However, I have since found that my work-life balance has been phenomenal, and a large part of the internship is focused on attending speaker events and networking with various individuals across the bank.
