2014 Operations Summer Interns

Feeling the need to make an impact in the community, the 2014 Operations Summer Interns organised a charity event raising money for Julia’s House Hospice; the only children’s hospice charity in Dorset dedicated to helping life-limited children and their families across the county and in South Wiltshire.

To raise money, we organised a relay bicycle race (on static bikes) between interns based in our London and Glasgow offices, with the goal to reach the mid-point between the two locations. More than 70 interns and employees cycled for 10 hours and covered a distance of 200 miles. We also hosted a doughnut bake sale in the London offices, and sold more than 30 dozens to Barclays employees.

With the support of our fellow interns and colleagues, we managed to raise more than £900 for Julia’s House Hospice. This amount was then matched by Barclays, meaning that our overall donation came in at just under £2,000!

We are delighted with the amount raised and would like to thank everyone who supported us to make this happen. Alongside our 5 Million Young Futures commitment, Barclays has a fantastic Community Investment programme that encourages employees to get involved in the causes we care about. It’s about giving back our skills, time and energy to support our local communities – so we’re thrilled to have raised the money.
