From Baby Boomers to Generation Z

There’s no question that the make up of our workforce has evolved over the years. In fact, today, we have employees from five generations in our global business, serving an equally broad range of customers.

To meet the diverse needs of employees at different stages of their lives, we provide all kinds of bespoke programmes, tools and networks. Whether you’re at the start of your career, a working parent, part of our military network or nearing retirement, we’ll help you create a role that works for you.

An environment that values experience and empowers employees to prioritize their professional and personal lives is one that allows us all to succeed together.

Dynamic working

Our flagship campaign in this area is dynamic working. Think of it as the next evolution of flexible working. With dynamic working, you’ll have the opportunity to define how you work your life. This might mean working with your manager to alter your hours to better fit your families’ needs. It could mean working remotely. Or it might mean taking some time out to volunteer. Whatever you want to do outside of your professional life, we’ll do our best to help you find a solution that works for you and us.

Multigenerational networks

We have a range of networks for people at different stages of their lives and careers. These include:

Bridge, the multigenerational network promotes intergenerational dialogue and learning. It challenges stereotypes and beliefs about age through the two forums:

  • Emerge:  empowers colleagues who are starting a career with Barclays or in financial services, to connect, influence, support and continue the intergenerational dialogue.
  • Midlife:  gives colleagues later in their career the opportunity to connect and grow, while also promoting the benefits of having a wealth of knowledge and experience at Barclays or within the financial services industry.

This is group of working parents and carers who focus on helping with the challenges of balancing family, life and work. As well as running regular events, webinars and seminars, they provide all kinds of useful information.

Working Families

Our global network connects and supports the thousands of Barclays’ employees around the world who are veterans and reservists.

At Barclays colleagues in different life stages have an opportunity to contribute to and benefit from our extensive mentoring programmes, covering:

  • Traditional mentoring: Our global mentoring tool gives colleagues access to a wide pool of mentors with varied skills and expertise.
  • Peer Mentoring: Colleagues have an opportunity to seek peer mentoring support for life stage such as becoming a parent.
  • Reverse Mentoring: This programme facilitates a wider learning perspective for the mentor and mentee alike. Junior colleagues have the opportunity to provide insight and knowledge to someone more senior, allowing a relationship to exist that fosters inter-generational dialogue and helps Barclays achieve wider and ultimately positive inclusion practices. At the same time, colleagues early in their career gain valuable insight into how managers make their decisions on a day-to-day basis.
