No banking service happens by magic. But that’s how we’d like it to feel for our customers. And to do that, there’s one team we turn to: Operations. For every transaction, payment and trade – they’re central to making it all happen.

What does that mean in the real world? It means a couple gets their first mortgage. A business receives a crucial loan. A credit card is paid off after a family holiday. All this happening at once, every minute of every day.

So it’s no exaggeration that without the Operations team, we just wouldn’t function. Put simply, they’re the heartbeat of the bank.

Because of the far-reaching nature of Operations, you should be happy talking to lots of different people and teams across Barclays. An eye for detail is also a must, as we need pin-sharp accuracy to make transactions happen swiftly and seamlessly.

When it comes to career development, know this: you’ll be a full-time employee the moment you step through the door on your first day. That means that once you have successfully completed your apprenticeship, having received the required performance rating and met the relevant objectives for your role, you don’t have to apply for a job – there’ll be one waiting for you.

Throughout the programmes, you’ll have a comprehensive support network around you. So expect frequent one-to-ones with your line manager and career coach, who’ll help you to realise your personal ambitions and goals. Because, here, it’s not just about the career you’ll discover – it’s also about who you’ll become.

Application process

The application process for our Foundation and Higher Apprenticeships is exactly the same. Here’s everything you need to know:

First up, there will be lots of opportunities for two-way communication. We want to make sure we're right for you, not just whether you're right for us. And if you have any questions along the way, there'll always be someone to help.

The application process has four stages:

  • You'll start by applying online
  • The next step is a 50-minute exercise designed to show us your strengths
  • Then it's on to a digital interview. Some questions will be multiple choice, while others will give you the opportunity to record a video of yourself
  • Finally there's an assessment centre, where you'll take part in a number of team building activities, assessments and a 1-2-1 interview
