We mean it. A Higher Apprenticeship might not be the most obvious step if you already work at Barclays, but our programme could be just the challenge you’re looking for. Open to colleagues of any age and background, this is the chance to get a degree or a professional qualification, and to train as a specialist in a new area. You don’t even need experience – just the potential to go far with us.

- 3-4 year programme
- Working in either Group Finance, Risk, Leadership & Management, Relationship Management, or Internal Audit
- Support to study for a degree or professional qualification, all while you work on projects that help you explore your new business area
- Dedicated mentors at every step
- Next steps: Barclays Graduate programme or full-time roles.
- A year’s work experience at Barclays, with a PD rating of ‘Strong’ or ‘Outstanding’
- The ambition to succeed with us – nothing else necessary.

I joined Barclays for the chance to progress my career and earn a good living – then I discovered the Group Finance Higher Apprenticeship. As a branch worker, it would be the chance to learn how the mechanics of our financial operations work. On top of that, it would be the chance to get the professional qualification I’d always wanted.
My proudest achievement in Operational Risk was designing, building and launching the Fraud mandatory training for 2017. I led the project over a six-month period, working with senior stakeholders and external training consultants to ensure the training delivered the key messages in the most effective way.
I’ve actually worked at Barclays for more than 10 years – first as a Cashier, then as a Moment Banker. I was eager to progress my career, but I made the decision to stay on in Retail until my children were old enough to give me more flexibility.
What comes next?
Our Higher Apprentice intake begins in September every year, so watch out for applications opening in February or March, followed by assessment centres in May and June.
